Reiki Drumming can be used with animals in much the same way Reiki is, although you need to take into account the sensitivity of the animal. In saying that, I find cats, who are particularly sensitive to loud noise, seem to appreciate Reiki Drum healing. My cat Echo rolls over and lets me drum one side, then rolls other so I can drum the other!

I remember my teacher, Michael Arthur Baird telling me a story of how he was drumming by a river and fish swam up to the bank where he was sat. Creatures are very attracted to vibration. My husband and I had a picnic in a field many years ago and had a boom box with some pop music playing along with us. Before too long we had a crowd of cows surrounding us and they were almost swaying to the music... again, attracted to the vibration!

I recently spent some time with a marvellous lady, Sheila Whittaker who is an esteemed sound healer. Sheila conducts gong healing and we were discussing how birds will stay in a tree when there is loud noise like a drum or gong being played outside but will fly very quickly at the sound of a gun shot. It's all about the intention and the vibration. A gun shot sound would be of a completely different vibration to that of gong or drum healing which gives off a vibration of love.

I've attached two photos of one of my early Reiki drum classes when Echo the cat jumped up on the couch. As you can see, she was very comfortable with the drumming. A few years ago a dear friend of mine, who is now in Spirit, was suffering with cancer. I used to give her regular Drum healing. She would lie in bed towards the end of her life with her cat lying over her abdomen, whilst I drummed them both.. a picture I will cherish always.

I have two dogs, Sammy and Buffy and find they like energy healing but on their terms. Sammy will go directly to the room I use for healing work and just lie down waiting for me to lay crystals around him or begin to do Reiki on most occasions when he is needing it but sometimes waits until my husband, Billy, is sitting quiet and then just sits beside him knowing that as soon as he (Billy) touches him the Reiki will start to flow. Buffy will only let us give her healing for short periods and again likes to come to us rather than accept it when we approach her. In a way this teaches us that, rather than offer Reiki to people who we think are in need of it, we must wait until they are open to receiving, at which time they will come to us, mmh!!
