Shining Light On Our Shadows

September 23rd, 2013

Well, how did it get to September and I’ve not blogged since the beginning of the year! It is an indicator of the year Reiki Drum has had in 2013 perhaps, a time when teaching, clinic, community events and residentials took priority over “creating”, and a time also to spend a little more quality time with family after we experienced changes to our family structure due to bereavement in the New Year.

And what a year it has been! I’ve had the pleasure to meet some truly wonderful new people at different events and classes who have brought new experiences and energy into my life, and like many of us at this time, have felt like life since 21st December truly did take on new meaning and was a new beginning for mankind. That’s not to say it has all been an easy flow of energy. These years were always meant to bring up challenges as we shift into higher states of awareness. It’s not always easy to let go of past conditioning and behaviours, which really is what higher consciousness asks one to do, and on a personal and global level, there can be a stubborn clinging to doing it as we always have done in the past. But fortunately the new energies won’t allow one to cling too stubbornly to our old self and we are all being challenged to meet our new self and experience great growth on many levels as a result.

One thing which has again been apparent is that globally, mankind is shining a light on their Shadow. This can be on a personal level, but is also seen on a larger scale too. This too can be challenging, but is necessary for us to realise the potential we have as human beings. One of the courses I teach is Karuna Reiki®, a beautiful system of healing which not only supports students in realising their potential during their current incarnation (and remember our potential is limitless), but also allows them to look very closely at their own Shadow Self, acknowledging it, accepting it and working with it to realise greater benefits for one’s own growth. The more I work with the Karuna energy and the Shadow, the more I realise the Shadow holds great gifts for a person. In the Usui Reiki Gokai “Okoru-na” recommends we “let go of anger”. Letting go is the operative word, and I don’t believe it was ever meant for us to suppress our anger into our Shadow where it can make us ill or come up at a later date and cause havoc. However, it is worth noting that the energy of a “negative” emotion which has been stuffed into our Shadow in the form of anger can actually be used constructively to spur us towards change. And it is an individual’s own anger and sense of personal boundary which will not allow them to be pushed into situations which are not healthy for them or be a doormat.

For the first time in many years I seem to have been made aware of global current affairs this year. Since working with Reiki over the last few years, I’ve opted to limit the amount of national and international news I’ve been exposed to, and am mindful that the things that have been brought to my attention are what I have needed to be aware of, and anything else has fallen within the remit of me not needing to know. But this year many different things have come to my attention and what I have noticed more than anything, is that mankind’s collective unconscious Shadow energy in the form of anger is saying “enough”, and is pushing to the surface of the conscious. It is this energy which is allowing different groups to stand up and say no to injustices which are taking place all over the world. After all it was collective anger which sought to put an end to the injustice of apartheid.

If you would like to start to explore and work with your own Shadow energy to help you realise its gifts and your own potential, I run Karuna workshops throughout the year for any student who has been attuned to the Reiki Master energy in the form of the Dai Ko Myo. Please go to the Karuna Reiki page under the Courses section for more information.

There are lots of interesting and transformational courses coming up in the next few months. Next weekend is the first of the Sacred Sound & Light Immersions, and I’m really looking forward to rolling out this two day workshop which is based on the Sound & Light Retreats I ran for a few years in Lincolnshire. We have all levels of Usui Reiki including Reiki Drum from now until the end of the year. All of next year’s classes have been added to the website Courses section.  For those of you who are coming along to the Honouring The Ancestor’s Sound Evening at Samhain, the Celtic New Year, I look forward to catching up with you in a few weeks for what is always a very special occasion.

Hoping it’s not another seven months until we catch up again.
